Before you start looking for a home, you should sit down and decide what features you are looking for in a home. Each person involved in the decision should make a list if five or six features which are very important to them. This checklist can be combined into a "Top Ten" checklist. You can use this list to judge each home you consider in your search. The amenities listed below can serve as a starting point. You may wish to add others, such as a workshop, pool, or any other feature which is important.

What community amenities are important to you?.
What is the time and distance to commute to work or school?.
Are you looking to buy a pre-built home or to work with a builder to design a look all your own?.
Do you want a detached or attached home?.
Do you want a one-story or two-story home?.
How many bedrooms and bathrooms are you looking for?.
What size lot are you looking for?.
Do you need a yard?.
Do you want to be in a certain school district?.
Are there childcare facilities?.
What are the outdoor recreation options available in the community?.
Are there shopping facilities nearby to suit your needs?.
What medical facilities are available nearby?.
Is there police and fire protection in the area?.
What are the property taxes and HOA fees?.
Bear in mind that no home will probably have everything on the checklist that you are looking for. But it should have most of them, or able to accommodate them if possible. .
